Peace in Hardship

The turmoil we see around us or experience can be overwhelming!

We might find ourselves wondering why there is so much negativity and hardship and devastation. We might forget that in this fallen world, sin is the default mode. As society grows farther from God, the effects become more evident to us.

All this can weigh heavily on our hearts and minds. For those who accept Jesus as savior and surrender to him, there is hope and peace, no matter the storms that inevitably come into our lives. With our minds stayed on Christ, he pulls us toward him. He is the anchor during our turbulence and the light during our darkness.

We live in a world where, sadly, a growing relationship with God is not the norm for his created people. Instead, people search for meaning in many things, people, or thoughts other than through Jesus. As Christ followers, do we share that Jesus is the only hope for salvation and then reflect that remaining in him is essential for life (John 15:1-5)? “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12 NIV, letter S in Keep on Track).

As the apostle Paul exclaimed, “For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain” (Philippians 1:21 NIV). Living, God gives us opportunity to grow in relationship with him – through peace or hardship or discipline – to serve him, to enjoy his goodness, and to point others to him. That is fullness of life! At our last breath, which God controls, he rescues us from this fallen world and places us in Jesus’ eternal presence. What joy to anticipate!

Therefore, we can have peace when it doesn’t even make sense to have it. We read Jesus’ words in John 14:26-27 (NIV), “But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

When we are worried, we can trust that “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1b NIV). God’s omniscience, omnipresence, and omnipotence mean he is able to take care of our troubles in his best ways. Let’s give over our worries to our loving Father. He knows, he cares, he provides.

When we are burdened, let’s remember that Jesus understands our struggles (Hebrews 4:15). He suffered, too, and he did so for our sake with love for us.

Receive the peace that he is so qualified to offer you, and share this encouragement with someone who needs it today.

Let Keep on Track help you keep your mind stayed on Christ each day!
