Weighty Decision
The decision to follow Jesus is weighty. In countries hostile to Christians, surrendering to Jesus poses a probable risk of persecution. How might ‘The Great Commission’ impact these believers? Matthew 28:18-20 (NIV) reads, “Jesus came to [the disciples] and said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.’” For our persecuted family of believers, the call to share the gospel of Jesus poses a threat of persecution. Getting baptized places them in danger as they risk being seen. Discipling Jesus-followers to obey him can present grave dangers. And yet, these believes are both humbled and supported by Jesus’ authority, and they trust Jesus with his promise to always be with them, even in the persecution.
Let’s pray for these spiritual family members who take great risks in Jesus’ name:
God, you are worthy of all our praise! We bring before you our brothers and sisters in Christ as they bring their sacrifice of praise to you while willingly risking their safety and security. Please give them spiritual sensitivity to discern who you have already been drawing to yourself and courage as they share the joy of knowing Jesus. May they abundantly sense your presence and love as they live out obedience to you. Pour out your grace on them, Lord!
