Prayers for the Persecuted

Let’s circle around again to focus on and pray for our persecuted brothers and sisters in the Lord. If you use a Heart Training book to exercise your faith, you pray at least weekly for a specific believer in an area hostile to Christians. We are to be spiritually alert and ready to pray for God’s people who, in the name of Jesus, battle the spiritual forces of evil. According to Open Doors World Watch List 2024, the most dangerous countries currently in which to live as a Christian are North Korea, Somalia, Libya, Eritrea, and Yemen. Yet, these believers remain faithful to Jesus because they know he is literally worth everything. Amidst their struggles, they cling to him as their source of life, the power behind their lives, and the peace within their lives. They live out the apostle Paul’s sentiments, “For me, to live is Christ and to die is gain” (Philippians 1:21 NIV). We know that Satan, the thief, wants to steal, kill, and destroy, but Jesus, our redeemer, brings abundant life (John 10:10)!
Let’s pray for our embattled family of believers using Ephesians 6:10-20:
Holy God, King of kings, you are mighty in power. In the name of Jesus we bring before your throne our persecuted family members. We ask that you strengthen them as they battle the spiritual forces of evil acting out through their governments and those following false gods. Through your Holy Spirit, give our brothers and sisters courage to stand firm in their faith, confident of your loving hold on them. Give them boldness to speak your truths through scriptures that offer the hope and peace that only Jesus provides. May you be glorified in their lives!
