About the Author

There is something invigorating about having a goal and working toward it.

For myself, this could describe exercise goals and homeschool planning goals. It was, however, my spiritual goal of growing in godliness, through submission to God, that prompted me to write the training programs Do LAPS!, Do LAPS! Volume 2, Follow and Lead, and Keep on Track. These books encourage believers to become more like Christ through the transforming power of God’s Word, as the Holy Spirit works in us.

During my homeschooling years, I experienced the blessing of teaching scripture memory to our own children. It was exciting to see how that impacted our lives! As my homeschooling career wound down, I gained even more time to study the Bible and memorize and pray scriptures. God put a desire in my heart to help others learn and memorize verses so that their minds could be focused on Jesus. I enjoy using my teaching skills to help others grow in their relationship with God.

I went to college to become a teacher, receiving a B.A. in math and an M.S. in education. I taught math in public schools and then, after becoming a mom, chose the rewarding experience of homeschooling. My husband, Scott, and I have been married since 1992 and our children are Jakob (married to Jolene), Andrew (married to Karlie), and Allison. I was blessed to see firsthand how loving and obeying God as a family fostered peace and joy in our relationships. Learning and applying scriptures was woven throughout our daily lives. As a teacher, I tend to see everything as a learning situation and an opportunity to write lesson plans. My passion has allowed me to work in and lead VBS, AWANA, Sunday School, Good News Club, Mothers of Preschoolers, Moms in Prayer, adult and teen small group Bible studies, homeschool classes, educational camps, and tutoring.

I also place great value on supporting ministries to persecuted Christians, providing them Bibles, and praying for these individuals. How they suffer for the Lord has been a model to me of the priority we Christians should place on serving God and studying the Word. So many believers in hostile countries long to have a copy of the Bible to read, despite the risks. Their zeal can inspire us to know, obey, and share God’s Word.

I pray you will find joy and transformation as you serve the mighty God! Submitting to Jesus is a daily choice as we choose his will over our own. Let us be found faithful and set apart for God’s glory!

Heart Training

Mission: Training Christ followers to grow in godliness through the power of God’s Word.

Vision: Hiding God’s Word in the hearts of believers and placing God’s Word in the hands of the persecuted.

Statements of Belief:

The Apostle’s Creed: I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of the saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

I believe salvation is a gift from God through Jesus’ sacrifice for our sins, and faith without works is dead. The Holy Spirit empowers believers to submit to God and live out his commands. We are to glorify God and love others, pointing them to Christ. Jesus says in John 14:15, “If you love me, keep my commands.” (NIV)

I believe that the Holy Bible in its original text is the inspired and authoritative Word of God.  As it was originally written in Greek, Hebrew, and Aramaic, we read from translations. In the Heart Training books, Do LAPS!, Follow and Lead, and Keep on Track, verses are taken from various versions of the Bible to accommodate the study books’ A-B-C format. Most verses are sourced from the NIV, but also used are ESV, NAS, NKJV, KJV, and BSB.
