A Family in Tune

Did you get to sing “O Holy Night” this Christmas season? The lyrics unpack great truths. Listening to meaningful Christian carols as a family is one way to share about God’s ways to your young singers.

The most important work you and I will ever do will be between the walls of our own homes. (Harold B. Lee)

I recently saw this on a wall hanging at a store and it struck a chord with me… to the tune of parenting.

What a blessing it is to have time to spend within your own walls – a sense of security and peace. Does your home offer your family a sense of being cherished and encouraged? It is a dream that can be fostered through peace the Lord brings.

As parents, with your heart tempo set to honoring God through love and reverence, the rhythm of your home can support a joyful tune. Chords of dissonance may hit, but they segue into a harmony. Family members’ solo accomplishments are cheered on as the other family members lend encouragement. The ebb and flow of each other’s efforts and successes foster family unity. Each person is known as important and valuable.

On a daily basis, family members can share the load of responsibilities at home - practicing initiative, manners, and thoughtfulness. At each life stage there are stressors and trying to put ourselves in one another’s shoes can help ease frustrations along the way. Modeling patience, kindness, and respect go a long way.

Your marriage and your child-raising ought to be both highly valued and protected. Important individuals are involved! There’s a great big world outside your four walls. Take care to set your children on the right path, so they can submit to God and live to their potential.

What is your family’s tune? Are you making a beautiful life song?
