An Example Set

Can you imagine having to read your Bible in secret and keep it hidden? This is the case in Somalia, one of the most dangerous places to live as a Christian. Yet, these believers still choose to study God’s Word in order to know the One who saves, who guides, and who nourishes their souls.

Can you imagine living in expectation of trouble if you are overheard talking about Jesus? This is the reality for Christ followers in Yemen, who know they will be persecuted if this happens. Yet, they want others to know the forgiveness of the One who removes their guilt and shame and the hope of the One who heals them when their culture’s gods could not.

Can you imagine having to worship secretly with other believers? In Iran, the persecution is intense for those who convert to Christianity. Yet, in boldness they worship, pray, and support each other in underground churches.

Our persecuted brothers and sisters in Christ set an example for us to act on the importance of exercising our faith. May we do so – and, like them, with joyful confidence in the power and love of the God we serve.

Let’s pray for those in the global family of believers who are suffering in Jesus’ name:

Holy God, full of majesty and compassion, you are worthy of all worship, no matter our situation. Thank you for these Christian family members who, in the midst of oppression, are persevering in their faith. Fill them with your wisdom as they live in places hostile to you. Give them your peace that is beyond understanding and your joy that is indescribable. As they read their Bibles and worship with other Christians in secret, grant them courage and protection. As your gospel goes forward, prepare the hearts of those who need the saving grace of Jesus.
