The commitment to following Jesus should not be taken lightly no matter where we live. In countries hostile to Christians, we see examples of how members of the family of God have counted the cost of submitting to Jesus. He is worth it, and many are willing to give their all in gratitude for salvation. They model 1 Peter 1:13-15 as they prepare their minds for action, ready to take a stand for the truth of and obedience to Jesus. They put their hope in him, knowing that persecution will come. They choose to be set apart from their society, truly living as strangers in this world. As they see family members or friends being abused, taken captive, or murdered for the sake of the gospel, their courage is fortified knowing their Heavenly Father provides wisdom and perseverance.
Let’s pray for these believers who, as Peter encourages in 1:17, live their lives as strangers in their country, in reverent fear of the holy God:
God Most High, be a shield to these believers who risk everything here as they live their lives submitted to you. Please provide wisdom as they witness and protection as they worship. Give them your inexplicable peace and your blessings promised to those who suffer in your name. May Jesus be glorified in their lives!
