A Mother's Prayer

A Mother’s Prayer

God, as your child yet a mother

My eyes lift to gaze upon you

Wise, just, loving Father

Conform my heart to yours

Direct my focus off my self

Where my priorities can reign

Set it on your will for me

This is what my children need

 Forgive my selfish desires

Unholy expectations

Oh, that I may be more like you

Merciful, patient, nurturing

 God, reveal yourself through me

So my children know their worth

 Their value, purpose, beauty

This, a mother’s growing prayer

When growing children, we can seek wisdom from our loving, heavenly Father – the most excellent parent. God’s guidance and the Holy Spirit’s nurturing yield fruit in our parenting as our will yields to the Lord.

In spite of our limitations, natural or willed, our hearts can yet be molded. When we struggle with our selfish tendencies juggling love, authority, and humility amidst emotions, as parents we have opportunity to grow. Isn’t it amazing how God works through us, in us, and in spite of us as we nurture God’s valuable gifts to us?

Let’s fix our eyes on Jesus and model his love, truth, and forgiveness. As we bring up children under God’s direction, we can help them grow to their God-given potential.

May your mother’s growing prayer bring you a harvest of blessings.
