Persevering

Reading accounts of new believers around the world who face persecution from family members can conjure up emotions such as shock, sorrow, anger, and pity. Knowing this is happening in countries that are notoriously hostile to believers, other emotions surface as well: compassion, awe, encouragement, and conviction. These individuals have chosen to surrender their lives to Jesus as Savior and Lord, fully knowing they will endure hardships. They understand that Jesus is worthy of all worship. Their passion for both sharing and living out the gospel is inspiring! They do not pretend that they do not experience emotions of fear and sorrow as they suffer mockery, estrangement, or torture. However, they are focused on loving and serving their Savior, living their lives as an act of worship to him, for his glory.  Prayers by the family of believers around the world bring them encouragement and, thus, bolster their courage in persevering.

Let’s continue to encourage these family members:

Jesus, you are worthy of all praise! Thank you for your mercy, allowing people across the globe to know you as Savior and Lord. We bring before you our brothers and sisters who are choosing to live for you in spite of great opposition. May your Holy Spirit, which is at work in these believers, strengthen them when they are weak and embolden them when they feel discouraged. Bless them with glimpses of your glory and work in the hearts of those around them as they “offer to God a sacrifice of praise – the fruit of lips that confess his name” (Hebrews 13:15b).
