A Plan to Enjoy

“Enjoy them while they’re young!”

Were you given that encouragement as a parent of young children?

While in the thick of it, those days can feel like a rubber band stretching. But the years of children growing from baby to toddler to youth to teen really is but a fleeting, small fraction of a parent’s life.

During this short time a lot of effort and planning happens, though, doesn’t it? Meeting milestones and making memories usually don’t happen without thinking ahead of time about how they will get accomplished.

Teaching children about God and how to grow in him is also something that needs to be planned. Unless that is decided and then implemented, it won’t ‘just happen.’ Too often the good intentions might not materialize. Or they might last a few days and peter out or happen only sporadically. With a family’s busy schedule, distractions, and the pull of media, coupled with feeling ill-equipped, spiritual training at home often is just left as a wish.

But it is possible to make that wish a reality.

The Do LAPS! books make this not only possible but looked forward to! Each book lays out weekly verses with a simple, daily structure to follow. To make it seamless for parents, there are discussion guides and choices of activities to enhance a child’s understanding, memorization, and application of God’s Word. When working through the lessons, both parents and children are focusing on God’s truths, learning scriptures, praying, and bringing God into daily conversation. These priorities are being shared in valuable and engaging ways. Using Do LAPS! is one way that parents can model the importance of daily time with the Lord, in the Word.

With the culture’s ideas so far from God’s ideas, we must follow through with helping children hold God’s truths in their minds and in their hearts. As they grow up and their time away from parents increases, they will need to have God’s words in their minds to help them make choices that honor him and guide them in his will. As they grow up and become more independent with their choices, they will have benefited from the discipline of daily time in the Word and prayer in order to grow their knowledge of, worship of, love for, and surrender to God, through Jesus. How impactful this is!

By God’s grace, you can parent with a joyful, eternal perspective! May the Holy Spirit grow this desire in your heart so that your family will “train yourself to be godly. For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things” (1 Timothy 4:7b-8a NIV, letter T in Do LAPS! Volume 2).

What a meaningful way to enjoy your children while they’re young!
