When reading the Bible, do you pick up on how God is consistent?
What a challenge it would be to serve a god who is not consistent! It is hard enough to maintain a friendship with someone like that, who seems insincere or has conflicted expressions of the value placed on your friendship. This contrast to God’s character can help us appreciate even more that God is consistent in who he is, how much he values us, and what he expects of his children.
One of the benefits of working through Keep on Track is that it allows us to see how God’s truths are carried out in various parts of the Bible. As we meditate on a weekly, specific verse to apply to our life, the daily devotionals take us to several places in the Bible that reflect that verse’s theme. We can see how God’s truths are framed in different situations, helping us get a richer picture of who he is. When we see his consistency, we can more easily trust him. He has ‘proven’ himself.
Another benefit of working though Keep on Track is that not only do we see how God is consistent, but we get to be consistent in growing our faith. We establish a daily commitment to the Lord – spending time with him, meditating daily on a particular scripture, and praying for God to have his way in our life, specifically related to that verse.
Too often we are in a ‘quick, get it done’ mentality each day. We hurry through eating, rush while driving, multitask through activities, overstuff activities into our day… and quickly hear a Bible verse on the radio and count it as daily time with the Lord.
Seldom do we linger in the moment and absorb the goodness God has placed before us.
Lingering for several days on a particular word of God allows it to churn in our heart and mind. It affects our thoughts, perspective, and prayers, and we experience effects from that. The goodness of God, consistently displayed, works in us and transforms us as we allow God to pour into us through his Spirit and Truth.
God’s consistency accompanies his faithfulness… and how far that faithfulness extends with his presence in our lives. Through the work of Jesus, he guides us and trains us in him, for his name’s sake, for his glory. He is worthy!
