Christians in Afghanistan are facing terror by the Taliban, and it is difficult to comprehend the reality of what is happening. Most of us cannot fathom the pain they are experiencing, but as Jesus followers we serve the same true God as these brothers and sisters in Christ. No matter where we live, God is omniscient, omnipotent, and omnipresent. God gives his children indescribable peace in the midst of pain. He has shown this to be true in the past and we can trust him for this in the present and future. Although the acts of the enemy are so visible in this dire circumstance, we know that the battle belongs to the Lord and the heavenly realm fights for God. Jesus wants all to know him, and we pray that the hearts of those who do evil will turn to him.
Let’s join the battle and pray on behalf of our brothers and sisters in Afghanistan:
Almighty God, you are in control, even when what is happening around us looks bleak. Please minister by your Holy Spirit to the Christians in Afghanistan. Provide them with wisdom to know what to do, give them your protection as they are in danger, and meet their needs. Supply them with your peace that surpasses all understanding, and give them courage to stand for you when under pressure. Please give them your grace and mercy. In Jesus’ name, amen.
