Start to Finish

The reality is that God determines our time spent on Earth. He alone knows our start and our finish.

In light of that, each of us needs to “seek the LORD while he may be found; call on him while he is near. Let the wicked forsake his way and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him turn to the LORD, that he may have compassion on him, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD” (Isaiah 55:6-8 ESV).

For those whose lives hinge on Jesus as Savior and Lord, a glorious eternity with our heavenly Father awaits!

The apostle Peter reminds us in 2 Peter 3:9-15 that God is patient, wanting everyone to repent and turn to him. However, the Lord will return – bringing destruction of the heavens and earth – without warning and we must be ready. How do we prepare for his coming and for us meeting him? Peter admonishes us “to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming… make every effort to be found spotless, blameless, and at peace with him” (vs. 11b, 15b NIV).

Our present time is preparation for eternity in God’s presence.

Is your heart and mind focused on the almighty God? Are you preparing for this meeting?

How awesome that we do not have to wait till that very moment at the end of our life to connect with God. Each day we have opportunity to commune with him because of our savior, Jesus!

While God allows us breath, let us pursue him.

With a humble heart, we can study the Word to learn of our just, holy, and merciful God. Jesus told his followers, “If you really know me, you will know my Father as well” (John 14:7a NIV, letter K for Knowable in Follow and Lead). We need to know whom we serve. In our flesh, we sometimes forget that it is God, not us, who sets the standards for honoring him. Therefore, we need to train for godliness by living according to his principles through the power of his Holy Spirit at work in us.

Are you so in awe of God that you desire to know him better each day?

“The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth” (Psalm 145:18 NIV, letter N for Near in Follow and Lead).
